The Transport Working Group aims to review and dicuss matter of transport relating to the village of Drayton and it residents.
In particular it will be looking at any transport issues which may arise with regard to potential housing developments in the village. These will include such matters as:
- Traffic calming
- Bus services and routes
- Cycle paths
- Pedestrian crossings
- A34 access
- Car parking facilities
- Road surfaces
The group will look at the existing situation regarding these and any other transport issues, and how they can be improved.
Vision:
- To make it easier for all residents of the village to travel in and around, and stop in the village more safely and easily and improve transport links to surrounding towns and villages.
To Achieve this by:
- Reducing the speed of motor traffic travelling through the village
- Reducing the volume of motor traffic travelling through the village
- Improving non-car transport links to retail and work locations in surrounding area
- Introducing additional safety measures for residents (especially the elderly and young)
Detailed Actions:
To reduce the speed of motor traffic travelling through the village
- Explore traffic calming possibilities in the village, including looking at speed limits, the use of speed cameras and signs etc
- Examine possibility of standardising speed limits on the approaches to the village.
To reduce the volume of motor traffic travelling through the village
- To Promote use of Bus Services and Bicycles
- Examine the benefits of “Walk to School” campaign
- Promote retail operations in Village to reduce need to drive externally
- Explore benefits of re-opening the A34 slip road in South Drayton
To improve transport links to retail and work locations in surrounding area
- Look to see how to increase frequency and number of bus services servicing the village
- Increase and promote use of use bicycles both in the village and to surrounding area. e.g. Milton Park, Steventon & Sutton Courtney and examine possibility of additional cycle ways.
To introduce additional safety measures for residents (especially the elderly and young)
- Build additional zebra crossings in village
- Improve footpaths around village to promote walking and cycling around village away from traffic.
- Provide for proper parking facilities around village to reduce traffic parking in road or on pavements
Other:
- Introduce parking time restrictions to stop use of public space for advertising cars for sale.
